“Piece of Me” was the second single from Britney’s 2007 album “Blackout”, and joins “My Prerogative” as a protest about her treatment by the media. One track demands to know “Why can’t they just let me live?!” and the other, “You want a piece of me?” The lyrics are very personal, yet the song was both written and produced by Bloodshy and Avant and Britney doesn’t claim a joint writing credit. However, Jive A&R manager Teresa LaBarbera Whites noted that Britney often made a major contribution to how a song turned out, as in this case.

From the moment a snatch of “Gimme More” was leaked on YouTube in connection with an abortive video treatment, fans were intrigued by its fresh and unusual melody line and there was widespread delight when it emerged that this was to be the opening single for the Blackout era. It has since become a fan favorite, and reckoned to be one of Britney’s best-ever singles.

We are only weeks away now from the beginning of Britney’s endlessly awaited “Circus” tour. If we believe BreatheHeavy and the National Enquirer, she’s being blackmailed, forced, cajoled, brainwashed and drugged into going on the road when all she wants to do is be free to tool around LA in her car, screw Adnan, rehire Sam Lutfi, kick her father and Larry Rudolph out of her life and spend loads more time with her babies - presumably before slumping back to the depths she inhabited before her parents stepped in.

Most of what people have written about “Circus” thus far - whether on the internet or in print - has been a snap judgment based on one or two hearings. Best and worst tracks were decided upon. Potential singles were selected. Comparisons with other Britney albums and “elimination contests” have taken place. We’re living with the album now, and the initial excitement is pretty much over. So... what are your opinions NOW?
