Enough of this "rushing out" bullshit!
Enough of this bullshit! I didn’t think it was a bad thing for BMG to ask fans what kinds of thing they’d like to see on Britney’s next album. Democracy, right? If Beyonce asked her stans for an opinion, they’d be delighted and proud to have been asked. But Britney’s fans......? Let’s just say a lot of them have been reacting with their usual mixture of juvenile gracelessness and sneery cynicism. “Sometimes” was written and co-produced by regular Britney-songwriter Jorgen Elofsson, who also had a hand in Crazy, Girl in the Mirror and What You See is What You Get. (A recent lawsuit over the authorship of the song was settled in favour of Britney’s camp.) Main production was by Per Magnusson and David Kreuger. Keyboards were played by Jorgen Elofsson and Per Magnusson, acoustic guitar by Esbjorn Ohrwall and bass guitar by Thomas Lindberg. The only credited backing vocalist is Anders van Hoffsten.

I never thought I was going to write about this song.....ever. Even though pop encyclopedist Stephen Erlewine describes it as “the utterly delightful, bubblegum-ragga album track”, I always regarded it as pure filler - a piece of irritatingly puerile pop drivel that owed more to Jive’s scatter-gun approach to A&R than to any creative planning. Yet, having been forced to take a closer look by those who requested an “In Depth” about it, I now believe that “Soda Pop” is a hugely important piece in the jigsaw puzzle that is Britney Spears.

In-Depth: Showdown
The In-Depth Series

Around the launch of In The Zone, the media were agog at the some of the words from Showdown - “I don’t really want to be a tease, but would you undo my zipper please?” and “I see you body rise, rise”. It looked like Britney was on a mission to consign her kiddy-pop image to the past. If they had noticed another line, “And when you come don’t get too hot”, they would have known for sure that the era of Sexy Britney was upon us.

Check this out! These words are very interesting in the light of Britney's recent declaration of independence from her family and her handlers:
