You knew it off by heart? Not me. I’ve always had a problem with the “Britney” album. I borrowed it out of the Library and they never asked for it back – that can’t be a good sign! |

Originally written May 23, 2005. ITZ was the album that turned me on to Britney Spears. Before ITZ, my No.1 listening heap consisted of Mary J. Blige, Ashanti, Mariah, Beverley Knight, Toni Braxton, K.D. Lang and some weird old birds like Laura Nyro and Dory Previn.
My little sister was (and is) a huge Britney fan and pushed “Britney” at me, but at that stage I found it clunky, mixed-up and naive. ITZ was different. Fresh, new, cool urban sounds on the the off-beat, top productions full of thudding impact but sung with a knowing, subtle, sexy purr. I had never heard anything quite like it - and I still haven’t. Now it sits on top of my heap of most-played albums and I think it’s one of the best. |

Originally written June 9, 2005. Okay, first my little bit of personal baggage. When BOMT came out I was in my First Lesbian Period and I thought she was HOT! I wanted her so bad! But I didn't really like the way the media were goin' nuts about her and she seemed to be ruling the world on the strength of one single. I resented her a little bit and thought she would be finished in a couple of months. So I just let her go and went back to Mariah. |

Originally written August 8, 2005. Where the BOMT videos portrayed Britney as a cute, lovable young girl and the OIDIA videos showed a growing realisation of her sex appeal, the “Britney” videos captured a moment in time when Britney Spears was quite possibly the hottest female on the planet. For a while she was a peerless beauty, with perfect skin, perfect teeth, perfect hair, beautiful eyes and body of dazzling allure - slim, athletic and as toned as Miss Universe, yet with curves in all the right places and sexy as hell. Let’s have a look at them: |
