Originally written June 9, 2005. Okay, first my little bit of personal baggage. When BOMT came out I was in my First Lesbian Period and I thought she was HOT! I wanted her so bad! But I didn't really like the way the media were goin' nuts about her and she seemed to be ruling the world on the strength of one single. I resented her a little bit and thought she would be finished in a couple of months. So I just let her go and went back to Mariah.
Then one night I heard a review of OIDIA on the radio and they talked about her with such high regard. They totally respected her success and all she had done up to that point, and they mentioned her unique voice. So I went "Oh! Maybe she's a lot more than I thought!" And I started to get a warmth towards her - but STILL I didn't buy her CDs. She seemed to be doing just fine without me!
But once I fell in love with ITZ I decided to go back and see what else she had done. I didn't like the "Britney" album all that much at first, so I bought the OIDIA album. And I loved it. This is now my 2nd favourite Britney album.
There's so much for an emotional girl like me to marvel at on OIDIA. So many moments when I'm searching for Kleenex with tear-filled eyes. The powerful vocal on "Where Are You Now", the sweet truths of love on "When Your Eyes Say It", the yearning, almost pleading emotion of "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know", the lovestruck innocence of "Dear Diary", the grace and feeling of "Girl In The Mirror", "You Got It All" and "Heart".....
And the upbeat songs aren't so shabby either! "Oops" is a marvelous opener and she sings it even better than "BOMT". "Stronger" was underrated at the time because it was so similar in style to some of her earlier hits, but now it sounds so powerful - along with "Don't Go Knockin' On My Door" it's Assertive Britney at her finest.
I still think "What U See Is What U Get" and "Can't Make You Love Me" are fillers - even though she does sing them brilliantly - and I don't like them much. But "Lucky" and "One Kiss From You" are sweet mid-tempo songs raised from mediocrity by Britney's characteristic vocal treatment. "Satisfaction" is quite OK, actually. Britney's understated, hypnotic approach gives a new reflective dimension to the Stones' overwrought original.
Overall, an album that contains many jewels and most of them are diamonds. 1. Oops! I Did It Again 2. Stronger 3. Don't Go Knockin' On My Door 4. I Can't Get No Satisfaction 5. Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know 6. What U See Is What U Get 7. Lucky 8. One Kiss From You 9. Where Are You Now 10. Can't Make You Love Me 11. When Your Eyes Say It 12. Girl In The Mirror 13. You Got It All 14. Heart 15. Dear Diary
